A light blue jacket could help change children’s perception of the police, child rights experts and Assam Police officials said on Friday, a day after they launched Sishu Mitra, an ambitious collaborative programme to holistically change how the men in khaki interact with young people.
GUWAHATI: A senior official of SOS Children’s Village, Guwahati, has been arrested on charges of molesting three minor girls who are among the 140 children who live in the village.
The village at Azara was set up under the international organization, SOS Children’s Villages International, in 1988. The SOS Villages organization states its aim is to “protect and care for children who have lost parental care or stand to lose it.”

Former officer-in-charge of Bharalumukh police station here, Uma Bora, sub-inspector Azizur Rahman, and Tamizuddin Ahmed were arrested today following an investigation revealing that Raja Ali, a 13-year-old boy who was arrested on charges of theft, died after being beaten up by the trio in police custody.

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati district and sessions court have convicted one Vikash Sahani and sentenced him to 7 years’ imprisonment under Section 4 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. A fine of Rs 50,000 was also slapped on the convict.
